Timber Frames

Here at Priory Carpentry & Building Services we not only use traditional building methods such as brick and block, we also specialise in Timber Frame construction.

Due to timber frame being the most widely used structural building method in the world, it is becoming more & more common place in the UK. Offering a faster build, more highly insulated & eco- friendly product.

With our team having over 20 years’ experience using timber frame. Building timber frame outbuildings i.e. Garden rooms used for offices or gyms. Oak framed barns or car ports. We also build timber frame extensions and even full timber frame house builds.

Why choose Timber Frame?……

Speed

Timber Frame buildings can be erected and made water tight usually within 7-10 days. This in turn speeds the whole build process up. As whilst the outer skin (brickwork /cladding) is being built, other trades such as electricians and plumbers can start a lot earlier inside.

Usually with a 30% reduction in construction time, using timber frame can considerably lower the cost of the build.

Thermal Performance

A clear advantage for timber frame construction is that the insulation is contained within the depth of the inner timber frame, so a typical timber wall can be thinner than its masonry equivalent, for example, by using a 50mm cavity.

Another benefit of using timber over masonry is that timber will retain heat a lot better. A room enclosed by an insulated timber frame wall will heat up a lot quicker than a masonry wall.

Once a good level of insulation is achieved, the amount of heat lost as a result of air leaking out of the building then becomes more significant. Timber frame structures tend to perform well on this score, because they are sealed to prevent moist air reaching the inside of the construction.

Eco Friendly

Timber Frame, best-known quality is its environmental excellence.

The use of timber as a building material encourages the growth and expansion of the forests that provide the supply, which absorb CO2 and therefore help to reduce the level of global warming. . Trees will lock away CO2 in their wood, which is retained throughout the existence of the timber.

Over 90% of all wood consumed in Europe is sourced from European forests.

Timber is said to be ‘renewable’ because, in order to replace it, another tree is planted. Provided this is carried out, the supply is endless. Compare this to bricks, blocks and concrete, all of which rely on the extraction of raw materials from the earth, which ultimately will run out. Using timber has many more environmental benefits.
